Nick Shannin is a Supreme Court of Florida Qualified Arbitrator and brings more than three decades of litigation experience to expertly resolve matters referred to both binding and non-binding arbitration.
Is arbitration right for your litigation? Arbitration is an alternative to the judicial resolution of legal disputes and is usually less expensive than taking a case to trial. Instead of a judge, an arbitrator or arbitration panel considers the facts and arguments made by the parties and decides the case following Florida law. That decision may be binding or non-binding, depending on the circumstances.
A court may refer parties to non-binding arbitration, which means the arbitrator hears the dispute and renders a decision that may be rejected by either party under a process prescribed by the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure. Parties, by contract or mutual agreement, may also take their dispute to binding arbitration, whereby the decision of the arbitrator requires the parties to comply with the result.
As mentioned above, one advantage of arbitration is that it is almost always less expensive than litigation in court. Another advantage of arbitration is that the dispute is decided privately and does not become a matter of public record. Mr. Shannin’s extensive experience in all types of civil disputes makes him uniquely qualified to serve as an arbitrator and to decide your case fairly and expeditiously.
